VisaNet is a system for accepting and sending payments within Visa. More than 46 million merchants (companies that accept cards) are connected to this system, 15,900 financial institutions work on the VisaNet system. The system is so large that, by providing services in more than 160 currencies in more than 200 countries around the world, it reaches a total turnover of 11 trillion dollars a year.

What is very important in the system is its throughput and speed. Transactions take even less time than it takes for a cashier or customer to swipe a card across a terminal or enter a card PIN, and up to 65,000 such transactions can take place every second.
